Lovely Egyptian revival dress.
Strong cotton tulle is embellished with dark blue/black glittering sequins and sparkling crystal beadwork.
The bodice is lined with silk crepe, the skirt with silk satin.
Long side opening with snaps on the side.
This piece, as with many in the 1920s era of Egyptomania, is rich in Egyptian cultural symbolism.
The central star with rays - symbol evoked the heavens and eternity in ancient Egypt. The pharaohs were said to ascend, after death, into the night sky as stars.
The palm frond images were sacred symbols in Egypt, of fertility, music, dance, and the pleasures of the afterlife. What could be more fitting in the design of an elegant evening dress?
Condition: Excellent. No holes, no discoloration, no underarm issues, the cotton net is strong. A few sequins are missing, but this is not noticeable.
